Diani triumphed at Upton House Horse Trials this week

July 17, 2015

Diani_Speedy_xc_Upton2015On Wednesday 15th July Diani Western-Kaye competed in the Upton House Horse Trials with Speedilicious in the Novice class and Noels Sox in BE100.

Diani got off to a good start, scoring 27.5 in her dressage test on Speedy. She then got 4 faults in the showjumping, which she admits was down to a rider error. She continued on to fly clear around the cross country course as the only rider within the allotted time. Diani said afterwards that she was particularly pleased crossing the trakehner after an incident at BCA earlier this season. With a total score of 31.5 she achieved a well deserved 1st place.

"Diani_So</pPleased with the performance so far, she went on to score an impressive 17.3 (82.7%) with Sox in the dressage, which is her personal best. They had a clear round in showjumping, and felt just a little bit of pressure in the start box for the cross country as the commentator set high expectation with the announcement, referring to her earlier round on Speedy being the only rider within the time. Diani has previously had issues going too fast with Sox, so focused on slowing down and had another brilliant clear round.

She is thrilled with her results. 1st and 3rd place, a personal best in dressage, 2 clear rounds in cross country and only 4 faults in showjumping. Who wouldn’t be?

Diani_Speedy_Upton2015Diani told us she is particularly pleased with Speedy. She got him as a 4 year old from David White’s Irish Horse Imports after love at first sight. After almost 3 years together, they are now a super pair. She gets constant guidance from mum, Natalie Western-Kaye and in the last 3-6 months, she thinks they have really improved on the jumping technique. She has regular lessons with Robert Pickles at Snowball Farm which has helped a lot.

Diani will be competing both horses again at Dauntsey Park Horse Trials on Wed 22nd Jul.
